FUNDRAISING FOR UKRAINE

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine causing Europe's fastest-growing refugee crisis since World War II, with more than 6.5 million Ukrainians fleeing the country and a third of the population displaced.

Bridgeway employees, went that extra mile to help raise funds, donate food and clothes to some of the charities helping the refugees who were and are still crossing the Polish Border.

  • After hearing about local charities based in Poland who were asking for monetary 'care packages'' in order for them to buy food and clothes locally to help refugees, we once again asked for your help and we collectively raised £2,000. Lukasz Kusior who used to work for Bridgeway as Head of Geomatics, who lives in Poland agreed to liaise with the local centres to ensure that their current needs are being met.
  • We arranged a collection of food and clothes donations on behalf of the Polish Scouting Association in Nottingham who, with the help of Coppice Farm Primary School in Arnold, then took our items along with many others to the Polish Border.
  • We arranged a Curry lunch and raised £175.00 which was added to the 'care package.'
  • To mark the Queens’ Platinum Jubilee, we enjoyed our own Celebration and raised £153.00 for the Guru Nanak Mission Nottingham, a local charity who prepare hot meals, pack them and then serve them in Nottingham City Centre every week

Working hand in hand with the Community

Bridgeway recognises that Corporate Social Responsibility is a continuing commitment by our business to behave ethically and to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of our workforce and their families as well as that of the local community and society at large.

Charity and Sustainability

With this in mind, we strive for excellence in everything we do in order to satisfy the needs of our clients, staff, subcontractors and local communities.

Bridgeway also aims to follow and promote good sustainability practices to reduce the social, economic and environmental impacts of all our activities and to help our clients and partners to do the same.

All of these factors are monitored carefully, with the staff’s wellbeing coming first. We feel a big part of our social responsibility is in keeping all staff happy and motivated with everything they do at work.

Examples of Bridgeway’s commitment to corporate social responsibility are shown below:

  • Being open in communications where we welcome feedback and involvement from our staff, subcontractors, clients and local communities.
  • Caring for our staffs health and wellbeing
  • One of the key weeks in the Bridgeway calendar is the Health and Wellbeing week. This year we hired a nurse to come in for the week and run health checks on the staff. This was followed up by key information flyers being handed out, along with pedometers and stress balls.
  • As a business we like to take a keen interest in all of our staffs physical and mental health, it’s at the forefront of everything we do.
  • Being involved in supporting local communities, ideas and charities. Last year we raised over £4,000 to help out local events and the target for 2015 is £5,000! This money was spread across 18 different charities and helped give something back to the community. We also support charities within the industry, predominantly the Railway Children.

Throughout the year Bridgeway take part in numerous charity events in order to raise money. This year’s events included; Summer BBQ, Christmas Party, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Robin Hood Marathon, individual sporting events, Easter Egg Hunt and a Circus event.

  • We work in partnership with Wish Upon a Star on a lot of our charity events, examples of these include both the Summer Circus Event and Easter Egg Hunt. For the Circus Event we invited local schools and Wish Upon a Star children to a large Circus performance.
  • Our Easter Egg hunt involved Bridgeway staff donating Easter Eggs and then going to donate them to local hospitals with Wish Upon a Star, over 300 eggs were donated in total and an extra £250 cash.
  • Bridgeway are committed to supporting local sporting teams.
  • Our most recent sponsorship deal is with a local U11’s football team in Calverton. This deal enabled the club to keep running and it provides a much needed source of entertainment within the community.
  • Bridgeway take on local tasks within the community.
  • Recently we cleared the local church paddock near our HQ. This saved significant money for the church and required only a day of our staff’s time and equipment.
  • Bridgeway cares about the environment.
  • During 2014, Bridgeway refurbished a dilapidated and vacant building and renovated it for our new HQ. Prior to construction works the building had an EPC rating of ‘D’. On completion, following incorporation of Solar Panels, cavity wall insulation, high specification windows with a low u-value and new roof cladding that exceed current building regulations requirements, the new office now has as EPC ratings of ‘B’.
  • Our staff are trained, experienced, and have access to professional environmental advice. They are fully briefed on the results of any ecological reports highlighting presence of protected and invasive species in the area and will follow relevant procedures including: specific prior assessment of impact if protected site; work to be undertaken in specific season, consideration of alternative methods of work; prevention of spread of invasive species, disposal of waste.
  • We will minimise disruption through site visits and work by careful planning and appropriate awareness of potential habitats and any other sensitive environmental aspect
  • With regards to staff travel we actively promote good vehicle maintenance, vehicle sharing and good planning of site visits (to avoid unnecessary trips).
  • Procurement & use of FSC Timber for structural and decorative works and maintain the correct ‘chain of custody’ documentations of the site.
  • We entered the Biodiversity Big Challenge and submitted our entry in the “most innovative” category. The entry was for Bridgeway’s use of seed balls throughout the UK. We did this as part of our commitment to biodiversity enhancement. Seed balls are easy to use and are replicable across all sites with suitable habitats; As far as we know this is the first project of its kind in the UK and helping replenish nature is at the heart of everything Bridgeway do.
  • Bridgeway recently registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme; this highlights the importance of corporate and social responsibility to the business and is supported by our ISO 14001, ISO9001 and Principal Contractor License accreditations.
